295. 人工智能 EP01｜又一次堪比印刷术的科技进步？或者更甚？

BYM 系列之 AI，这是第一集。

最近 AI 技术（ChatGPT，大型语言模型）大爆发，给人的第一印象是：这是犹如印刷术，甚至书写（writing）那样震撼的技术。如果真的是这样，咱们应该讨论的并不是最新的模型有多少参数，或者 GPT-4 在各项测试中又提高了多少。

当年印刷术刚刚问世的时候，想必也有很多人热衷讨论油墨的配方，或者模版应该采用什么材质。这些技术的细节会很快过时，并被遗忘。现在回看，印刷术更有意思的是在于它所带来的巨大变化（从马丁路德到工业革命）。

Bro 估计没人能够预测 AI 技术会带来怎样的变化，但这不妨碍咱们来尝试想象。不仅仅因为这本身就很有意思，而且，你并不需要准确的预测未来。你只需要做到，当未来发生的时候，你比其他人准备的更加充分，哪怕只是稍微。

PS. To get a flavor of the kind of things we might talk about in this series, here are some questions I have in mind:

-  current LLMs default to using words (technically it's tokens, but that's a minor detail) as the basic level of analysis. At first glance it seems sensible: words is the smallest unit of semantics (meaning), and humans naturally speak one word at a time, or do we? 

-why is it that people everywhere delineate text in sentences? or do they? If there are cultural traditions where people don't, I'd like to know.
