China’s embassy and consulates in Japan would resume issuing ordinary visas for Japanese citizens. The decision was announced by the Chinese embassy in Japan on Sunday, and took effect immediately.
1月29日，中国驻日本大使馆发布消息称，自即日起，中国驻日本使领馆恢复审发日本公民赴华普通签证。

The Chinese embassy in Tokyo suspended the issuance of ordinary visas for Japanese citizens on Jan 10, after Japan joined a handful of countries in implementing entry restriction measures targeting China.
此前，包括日本在内的一些国家对中国公民实施歧视性入境限制措施。1月10日，中国驻日本大使馆发布通知称，自即日起，中国驻日本使领馆暂停审发日本公民赴华普通签证。

The Japanese embassy in China on Jan 20 said its visa operations in China have "returned to normal" according to changes in the epidemic situation.

After years of preparation, the construction of a new branch of the Palace Museum, China's largest museum for relics' exhibition, formally kicked off in Beijing. The northern branch of the Palace Museum is located in Xiyuhe village of Xibeiwang town, Haidian district.
就在不久前，立项筹备已近十年之久的故宫博物院北院区正式破土动工。项目位于北京西北郊，海淀区西北旺镇的西玉河村。

Of the more than 100,000 square meters total area, 60,239.9 square meters are used for cultural relics display, and 35,106.8 square meters are used for cultural relics restoration.

The completion of the new branch of the Palace Museum will help the evacuation, restoration and protection of the ancient architectural space of Forbidden City, effectively alleviate the issues of scientific protection, display and utilization of large-scale cultural relics, and provide new development space for the Palace Museum.
故宫博物院新院区的建成，将有利于故宫古建筑的空间疏散、修复和保护，有效缓解大型珍贵文物的科学保护、展示和利用问题，也为故宫博物院提供了新的发展空间。

The new branch will be built as a mega comprehensive museum, whose main functions are the display, restoration, preservation and research of cultural relics, audience services, administrative offices and corresponding support facilities.

Renowned literary translator Yang Yi died at 8:30 pm on Friday at the age of 103, Yilin Publishing House announced via Weibo.
译林出版社通过微博发布消息表示，1月27日晚20:30，著名翻译家杨苡先生去世，享年103岁。

Yang was born in Tianjin in 1919 and went to the China-West Girls' School. She watched foreign movies with her classmates and practiced English as a daily hobby. This laid a solid foundation for her mastery of the Chinese and English languages.
杨苡生于1919年，曾就读于天津中西女校。她与同学一起看外国电影，将练习英文当作平时的乐趣，打下了坚实的中英文基础。

She wrote to Chinese writer Ba Jin, and in their correspondence she was encouraged to pursue a career in writing. She began publishing her works in 1936.
杨苡曾拿起笔给作家巴金写信，在书信往来中，她受到鼓舞。1936年，杨苡开始发表作品。

In 1938, she published a poem containing anti-Japanese elements. To avoid arrest by Japanese soldiers, she left Japanese-occupied Tianjin and went through Hong Kong and Vietnam, before finally arriving in Southwest China's Kunming to study at Southwest Associated University. "The moment we re-entered our homeland, everyone burst into tears," she recalled in an interview with CCTV.
1938年，杨苡因发表的诗歌中含有“骂日本人”的内容而被日本兵盯上。为了逃避抓捕，她离开天津到香港，再绕道越南入境，最终前往昆明去西南联大求学。“大家都流眼泪，回到祖国了。”她在中央电视台采访中回忆道。

At university, she was advised to change her major to English from Chinese by author Shen Congwen, who lent her many books on translation. Ba Jin also encouraged her in her endeavors. Huxiaoshanzhuang, the Chinese title of “Wuthering Heights,” was her first notable translation.
在西南联大，沈从文建议她从中文系转去外文系，并给了她很多翻译的书看。此外，巴金也写信鼓励她尝试翻译。杨苡翻译的首部作品是《呼啸山庄》。
