近义表达：if only 但愿，要是…就好了〔表示强烈愿望，尤用于知道所想的事不能发生时〕

wish与hope的一个最大的区别，就是wish可以用于明明不可能实现的愿望，甚至用于过去的不可改变的事实、现在不可能实现的愿望。用于这种场合时，搭配是：wish + (that) + 使用动词虚拟语气的从句。

在英国英语中，可以说 I wish I was，也可以说 I wish I were，后者相当正式;

在更正式的英语，尤其是美式英语中，许多人在 I、he、she、it 之后用 were，而不用 was：

I wish I were taller.

=If only I were taller.
