Mr. President, Madame Vice President, Americans and the world.

敬爱的总统，副总统，美国同胞们以及全世界的人们，你们好。

When day comes, we ask ourselves, where can we find light in this never-ending shade?

天亮的时候，我们问自己，在无尽头的阴影里，何处可以见到光明？

The loss we carry.

我们满身失落。

A sea we must wade.

在一个大海里艰难跋涉。

We've braved the belly of the beast.

我们英勇无畏面对野兽的残食。

We've learned that quiet isn't always peace, and the norms and notions of what just is isn't always justice.

我们知道了安静不总是意味着和睦，还有规范与观念只不过是清规戒律，常常不是公平正义。

And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it.

在我们明白之前，还以为黎明是我们的。

Somehow we do it.

我们以某种方式做到了。

Somehow we've weathered and witnessed a nation that isn't broken, but simply unfinished.

We, the successors of a country and a time where a skinny Black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president, only to find herself reciting for one.

And, yes, we are far from polished, far from pristine, but this doesn't mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect.

We are striving to forge our union with purpose.

To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, and characters of man.

And so we lift our gazes, not to what stands between us, but what stands before us.

We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside.

We lay down our arms so we can reach our arms to one another.

We seek harm to none and harmony for all.

Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true.

That even as we grieved, we grew.

That even as we hurt, we hoped.

即使我们悲伤，我们却成长。

That even as we tired, we tried.

即使我们痛苦，我们却有希望。

That we'll forever be tied together, victorious.

即使我们疲惫，我们却在努力。

Not because we will never again know defeat, but because we will never again sow division.

我们永远团结在一起，不断走向胜利，不是因为我们绝不会再品尝挫折，而是因为我们将绝不再播种分裂。

Scripture tells us to envision that everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid.

圣经告诉我们去憧憬，每个人应该坐在自己的葡萄藤和无花果树下，并且没有任何人让他们害怕。

If we're to live up to our own time, then victory won't lie in the blade, but in all the bridges we've made.

That is the promise to glade, the hill we climb, if only we dare.

那是对林间空地的承诺，我们翻越山丘，只要我们有胆。

It's because being American is more than a pride we inherit.

It's the past we step into and how we repair it.

还有我们要走进的历史和如何将它修复。

We've seen a force that would shatter our nation, rather than share it.

我们看到一股力量就要撕裂，而不是共享我们的家园。

Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy.

如果拖延民主大义，就会摧毁我们的国家。

And this effort very nearly succeeded.

并且这股力量几乎接近成功。

But while democracy can be periodically delayed, it can never be permanently defeated.

In this truth, in this faith we trust, for while we have our eyes on the future, history has its eyes on us.

This is the era of just redemption.

We feared it at its inception.

最初我们害怕。

We did not feel prepared to be the heirs of such a terrifying hour.

But within it we found the power to author a new chapter, to offer hope and laughter to ourselves.

So, while once we asked, how could we possibly prevail over catastrophe?

Now we assert, how could catastrophe possibly prevail over us?

We will not march back to what was, but move to what shall be: a country that is bruised but whole, benevolent but bold, fierce and free.

We will not be turned around or interrupted by intimidation because we know our inaction and inertia will be the inheritance of the next generation.

Our blunders become their burdens.

我们的失策会变成他们的负担。

But one thing is certain.

然而，一件事是肯定的。

If we merge mercy with might, and might with right, then love becomes our legacy and change our children's birthright.

So let us leave behind a country better than the one we were left.

With every breath from our bronze-pounded chest, we will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one.

We will rise from the golden-limbed hills of the West.

我们将从西部的黄金山丘崛起。

We will rise from the windswept Northeast where our forefathers first realized revolution.

We will rise from the lake-rimmed cities of the Midwestern states.

我们将从湖泊环绕的中西部崛起。

We will rise from the sun-baked South.

我们将从烈日炎炎的南方崛起。

We will rebuild, reconcile, and recover.

我们将重建、重整和康复我们家园的每个角落。

And every known nook of our nation and every corner called our country, our people diverse and dutiful, will emerge battered but beautiful.

When day comes, we step out of the shade aflame and unafraid.

The new dawn balloons as we free it.

For there is always light, if only we're brave enough to see it.
