The book I'm going to talk about this time is 'Leadership'.
The book focuses on the leadership mind-set of Ferguson, the former manager of Manchester United. The key to figuring out this mind-set is to understand what the difference between a leader and a manager really is. We often get these two concepts confused. Regarding this difference, as a leader you have to have a sense of ownership while maintaining a mindset of always growing. A leader has to be far-sighted, able to make long-term plans, and is the one who takes the direction of this. Whereas management is based in the present, taking control of the existing team through the rules system as well as the product service.
The attitude towards data-based. The book says that Ferguson's intuitive experience is very accurate. However, this does not mean that data technology is useless. Datamining and watching lots of video is a must for modern football coaches. Ferguson left all training to the assistant coaches in the middle and late stages of his coaching. Just because he didn't use modern technology doesn't mean datamining was wrong, but he had his own methods. He was managing in a leadership way.
Then again, not buying big names, not because big names are bad, but because Ferguson is a man who kills it, knows what the team needs, is completely uninfluenced by the media, has no idolatry and is bent on winning. He is an intelligent leader, best at motivating players and inspiring 5% more potential. He is a strategist, good at formation, psychological warfare and will integrate resources on and off the field such as the media, referees and other teams. He is the ultimate boss of Premier League football, and no matter how big the stars are, Ferguson is still the only one who makes the decisions at Manchester United. The book is a bestseller not only because Ferguson is a legendary manager, but also because it has a lot of commercial value. The same applies to the book's set of rules for running a business. Many of our subscribers, among others, have made a similar migration.
