Then Gratiano,who loved to copy what his lord did,thought he must make a similar speech.So he said,without knowing that Nerissa was next to Portia dressed as a clerk: “I have a wife whom I love deeply.I would happily trade her for a way to change the cruel temper of this currish Jew."
“You’d better not say that in front of your lady，or you would have an unquiet house.”
said Nerissa.
“Stop wasting my time!＂shouted Shylock.“Let us carry out the sentence.”
Now silence fell in the court，and every heart was full of grief for Antonio.“Shylock，you must have a surgeon present so that Antonio won＇t bleed to death..”Portia said.
Of course,Shylock had intended for Antonio to bleed to death all along.“There is no mention of a surgeon in the bond."said Shylock.
“I know it is not mentioned in the bond.＂replied Portia.＂But I beg that you get a surgeon so that this young gentleman may live.'
“Why should I?＂said Shylock.“It is not in the bond."
“Then，a pound of Antonio＇s flesh shall be yours.”said Portia.“The law allows it，and the court awards it.You may cut this flesh from off his breast yourself.The law allows it，and the court awards it.＂
