An elephant stands by a river bank.Some blind men hear the elephant.(Blind man 1) “Did you hear that?”(Blind man 2) “It sounds like an animal.”They want to know what it looks like.So they feel it with their hands.The first man touches the trunk. “It’s like a big snake.”The second man touches its ear. “It’s like a kind of fan.”The third man touches its leg. “It’s like a tree trunk.”The fourth man touches its side. “It’s like a wall.”The fifth man touches its tail. “It’s like a rope.”The last man touches its tusk. “It’s smooth and hard, like a spear.”Someone tells them it’s an elephant. “This is an elephant, my friends.”The blind men are happy. Each thinks he knows what an elephant looks like.(The blind men) “Now we know what an elephant looks like.”
