China succeeds in Mars landing

天问一号成功着陆火星

China's Tianwen 1 Mars probe streaked down through the Martian sky on May 15, becoming the country's first probe to land on a planet other than Earth. The lander, carrying a Mars rover, touched down at its pre-selected landing area in the southern part of Utopia Planitia, a vast plain on the northern hemisphere of Mars, at 7:18 am (Beijing Time), the China National Space Administration announced. 

国家航天局宣布，北京时间5月15日7时18分，我国天问一号火星探测器携祝融号火星车成功着陆于火星北半球乌托邦平原南部预选着陆区，实现了我国首次地外行星着陆。

China's first Mars rover is named Zhurong after the god of fire in ancient Chinese mythology, which echoes with the Chinese name of the red planet: Huoxing (the planet of fire).

我国首辆火星车命名为"祝融"，祝融是中国上古神话中的火神，这个名字恰好与火星的名字相呼应。

Better life-quality for the disabled

加强残疾人的民生保障

Chinese State Councilor Wang Yong on Sunday called for improving the quality of life of the disabled and enhancing the protection of their livelihood. Wang, director of State Council Working Committee on Disability, made the remarks while attending a series of activities marking China's 31st National Day for Helping the Disabled in Beijing. 

国务委员、国务院残疾人工作委员会主任王勇5月16日在京出席第三十一次全国助残日活动。他强调，要提高残疾人生活品质，更好保障残疾人合法权益。

Wang talked with disabled entrepreneurs, visited a rehabilitation center, and learned about its work. 

在活动现场，王勇与残疾人创业者亲切交流。在一家职业康复机构，王勇详细了解残疾人艺术及体育康复教学情况。

Noting that some disabled people are facing difficulties due to low incomes, Wang called for improving the employment situation and earnings of the disabled by providing better skills training and aid in job-seeking. Wang also emphasized improving relevant public services, such as rehabilitation and further developing disabled-friendly infrastructure.

王勇指出，仍有部分低收入残疾人生活还比较困难。要加强职业培训和就业帮扶，提高残疾人就业能力和收入水平，并大力发展残疾人康复、无障碍等公共服务。

Competition held in Bulgaria

保加利亚举办线上'汉语桥'

The Bulgarian national qualification contest of the 20th "Chinese Bridge", a major international Chinese proficiency competition for foreign university students, was held in Sofia on Sunday. 

第20届"汉语桥"世界大学生中文比赛保加利亚赛区比赛5月16日在索非亚举行。

The event, organized by the Chinese embassy in Bulgaria and the Confucius Institute in Sofia, was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with seven students from three universities participating. 

本次比赛由中国驻保加利亚大使馆主办，索非亚大学孔子学院承办。由于新冠疫情，比赛以线上方式举行。来自三所大学的七名学生参加了比赛。

Radina Yanuzova, a 23-year-old student from Sofia University’s "St. Kliment Ohridski", won the competition with 95.71 points out of 100. She will represent Bulgaria at the finals in China. The "Chinese Bridge" competition is organized annually to inspire foreign students to learn Chinese and enhance their understanding of Chinese culture.

最终，来自索非亚大学的23岁学生拉迪娜•亚努佐娃以95.71分(满分100分)的成绩夺冠。她将代表保加利亚参加在中国举行的决赛。每年举办的"汉语桥"比赛旨在鼓励外国学生学习汉语，增进对中国文化的了解。

Bryant enshrined in Hall of Fame

科比正式入选篮球名人堂

Los Angeles Lakers icon and legend Kobe Bryant was inducted posthumously into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2020 on Saturday, together with contemporaries "the Big Fundamental" Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. 

当地时间5月15日，2020届名人堂入驻仪式正式举办。洛杉矶湖人队已故传奇巨星科比正式入选了名人堂。同时入选的还有两名和科比同时代的球员——"大基本功先生"邓肯和加内特。

The 2020 induction ceremony was originally scheduled for August last year, but was delayed by eight months due to the pandemic. Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, died in a helicopter crash last year. 

2020届名人堂入驻仪式本应在2020年8月举办，但因疫情原因推迟了八个月。去年，科比和他13岁的女儿吉安娜在一场直升机空难中丧生。

Bryant was an 18-time NBA All-Star and five-time NBA champion who played for the Los Angeles Lakers from 1996 to 2016, earning the 2008 NBA MVP and Finals MVP twice in 2009 and 2010, also winning an Olympic gold medal with the US in 2008 and 2012.
