This is us , one blue dot, For centuries, we have questioned. What`s the most fundamental element of the matter structure. Where is it coming from? What`s the beginning? Why there so much more matter than the antimatter in our universe. So far the question is not yet answered clearly . I`m very curious I want to know I want to learn about things, I want to answer.

这就是我们,一个蓝色的星球。千百年来,我们都对它充满疑惑。物质的构成最基本的是什么?它从何而来?一切是怎么开始的?为什么宇宙中的物质多余反物质?到目前为止,这些问题还没有明确的答案。我很好奇,我想要了解这些事物,我想要答案。

 

These questions have inspired generation of particle physicists to discover and push the limits of science.

这些问题启发了一代又一代的粒子物理学家,去发现和推动科学的极限。

 

In 1950, China became part of this endeavor. Since than at the Institute of High Energy Physics. Her most brilliant scientists have dedicated their to this journey.

在1950年,中国加入了这一行列。从那时起,高能物理研究所里的最杰出的科学家们将他们的一生就贡献给了这趟旅行。

 

With thousands of scientists and researches, IHEP has been pushing the boundaries of particle and astrophysics. Particle physics is the filed that is trying to answer the most fundamental question about what everything is made of. Our focus are in two directions. One is we try to understand the physics beyond the standard model.  Secondly we try to understand the universe by looking for X rays also the cosmic rays. So that we can understand the extreme phenomena in the universe.

高能物理研究所里边有数千名科学家和科研人员,他们推动着粒子和天体物理学的发展边界。粒子物理学是一个试图来回答最基本问题的领域,关于什么是万物之本。我们关注的方向有两个,一个是我们试图去理解超越标准模型的物理;第二点是我们试图通过X射线和宇宙射线来了解宇宙,这样我们就能够了解宇宙里的极端现象。

 

To study these fundamental units of the universe. IHEP has put a lot of effort into state of the art facilities. Such as the Beijing Electron Positron Collider at the heart of China. With discovered a new particle.  

为了研究宇宙中这些最基本的单位,高能所在先进的设备上投入了大量的心血。位于中国中心的北京正负电子对撞机,帮助发现了一种新的粒子。

 

The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory and the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope were created to detect cosmic rays further than we can ever imagine. In Dongguan, IHEP built the first pulsed neutron spallation source in developing countries , to study the micro-structure of materials.

高海拔宇宙线观测站和X射线调制望远镜的诞生,是为了探测宇宙射线,其作用超越了我们的想象。在东莞,高能所建设了首个位于发展中国家的脉冲散列中子源,用于研究物质的微观结构。

 

The Days Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment built in Shenzhen, provides new insights into the behaviors of neutrinos. One of the most abundant particles in the universe. And one that`s likely responsible for making us .

位于深圳的大亚湾中微子实验室,为研究中微子的行为提供了新的视角。它是宇宙中最丰富的粒子之一,它可能是我们宇宙形成的根源所在。

 

Those important discoveries opens new area for studying neutrino physics. The experiments led by this institute, has already contributed many great results. Ending up in the textbook of particle physics.

这些重要的发现,为研究中微子物理开辟了新的领域。由于这个研究所所领导的实验,已经做出了许多伟大的贡献,并且最终出现在了粒子物理的教科书中。

 

But still we have unknowns puzzles and difficulties. To do a better research, we need both theoretical ideas and also the tools. For a better tomorrow, IHEP has been investing in new mega-science facilities, To study extreme tiny particles, found in our everyday life environment. IHEP is now digging 700 meters under the surface, to build the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory.

但是我们仍然有许多未知、谜题以及困难,为了做更好的研究,我们需要理论、思路和工具。高能所在持续不断的为未来建设新的大科学设施,为了研究我们日常生活环境中发现的极端微小的粒子。高能所正在地表700米以下开展挖掘工作,用于建设江门中微子实验站。

 

By 2025, IHEP Energy Photon Source in northern Beijing, will finally be operational. To study the Higgs particle, the most important subject in particle physics. IHEP has planned the circular positron collider, that would create Higgs particles for research.

到2025年,位于北京北部的高能所同步辐射光源,将会投入使用。为了研究粒子物理中最终的主体-希格斯粒子,高能所已经建立计划,环形正负电子对撞机用来制造用于研究的希格斯粒子。

 

These infrastructures are made by China. But for the rest of world. Because at the heart of IHEP is a belief that particle physics research should be accessible to everyone.

这些基础设施是中国所建,但是为了全世界。因为高能所的核心信念是,每个人都能接触到粒子物理研究。

 

This special facility will be for the whole community, with people from outside together, with  people from China. We`re gonna run together this big project.

这一特殊的设施,将会提供给整个社会使用,和来自国外的人一起,我们将会一起来运行这个项目。

 

We want international people to cooperate with us. And I think this is happening now, it is growing. Great endeavor takes effort ,time and most importantly, friends. While the journey ahead is long and arduous. The mission is clear. Pursuing answers about nature is something that a civilization requires. That`s very important and very high level as well.

我们希望国际社会与我们协同合作,我们认为,这种情况正在发生,并且在不断发展。伟大的努力需要奋斗和时间,以及最重要的合作伙伴。尽管前方道阻且长,但是我们目标明确。追求自然的答案,是文明的需要,这是十分重要的,同时也是非常高水平的体现。

 

What we are doing right now, may not find applications today, but it will be useful in the future. So my hope is that IHEP will eventually become one of the leading laboratories in the world. With an open and inquisitive mind the Institute of High Energy Physics may one day answer the toughest questions about time, dimensions and how everything begins and ends.

我们现在所作的,也许目前还没有得到应用,但在将来肯定会十分有用。我希望高能所最中能够成为世界上领先的实验室之一。秉承开放和好奇,高能所在未来会给出有关时间和维度、以及万物起源与结束的答案。
