Today, I would like to talk about mygrandfather, he is about 75 years old, and I would say he is a respectable man.

I admire him for two reasons. First ofall, I think he is a hard-working man. Even though he has reached theretirement age but he still tried to work as a doorkeeper (看门人) in alocal factory. I remember my cousin is only about 15 years old andunfortunately my uncle had suffered from health problems. They had very limitedincome, so my grandfather actually uses this money to pay for my cousin’sschool tuitions.

Secondly, I think my grandfather is a veryenergetic and optimistic person, he really likes me a lot, I remember I spentmy childhood with him since my parents worked in the city. Now I am studying ina college in city, every time when I come to see him during the holiday, heseems to be extremely delighted. He would be smiling at me and cook some of myfavorite food. I really like him. I admire him for his hard-working spirit, andalso for his loving-heart and the optimistic personalities

What do old people usually do in your country?

Well, I think it really depends. Some old peoplelike staying at home, watching news on the TV, reading newspapers, or growingsome flowers, or taking care of the family, while some old people liketraveling with friends or join in the square dance.

2. Why do young people like toask about the past life of the old people?

Well, I have to say their life is much easier thanbefore. First, they are richer than before so the living standard has improved.They don’t need to worry about the financial problems too much. Second, theaverage life expectancy is longer with the developments of advanced medicinetechnology. However, since young people become much busier, old people may feellonely without the company of their children.

3. What can young and old people learn from each other?

I think they can both learn a lot of things fromeach other. Old people have much more life experience than young people, sothey can share those experience with young people to help them make lessmistakes. Young people like trying new thing, so they can help old people learnhow to use modern devices such as computer and mobile phone. Also, old peoplecan learn from young people about how to adapt to the changes and think thingsin a new way.

4. Do you think old peopleenjoy their life more than they did in the past?

I would say so. With the improved medical treatmentand equipment, most old people can expect to live a longer life. Also, mostelderly people have higher pensions, this would enable them to spend more moneyon their hobbies, for example, travelling, besides, and I think their livingconditions have improved as well.
