Good morning

Today, I’ll teach you another idiom that you’ll often hear in the USA. It is used quite regularly when describing something that is on fire or has been burned. Learn this idiom and use it when you have a chance.

Idiom

Catch Fire

Meaning: Ignite

Sometimes, this idiom is used literally when something starts burning with fire. Sometimes it is used to express someone who is doing very well at something, especially in sports.

Practice

The house caught fire very quickly.

The car on the freeway caught fire.

The fake money caught fire because it was very dry paper.

The basketball player caught fire and scored a lot of points.

Learn this idiom and use it when you can. You’ll sound more like a native English speaker when you do.

That’s all for today.
