【英】《伊索寓言》第10集：The Lion’s Share

Once a lion went hunting with a fox, a wolf, and a jackal. They worked well together and all played a part in bringing down a fat stag.

Then, the fox asked, “How will we divide the meat?”

The lion stood over the stag’s carcass and drew lines on the skin to divide it into four pieces. He pointed to the first quarter. “I will take this quarter, for I am the king of the beasts and that is my right.”

“Agreed,” the other hunters shouted.

The lion pointed to the second quarter. “And I will take this quarter for my part in the chase and the hunt!”

The other hunters looked at one another, but finally said, “Agreed.”

The lion pointed to the third quarter. “And I will take this quarter for my wisdom, for no one else could decide as wisely.”

Now the other hunters frowned and shuffled. 

The lion glared at them, and they mumbled, “Agreed.”The lion pointed to the fourth quarter. “And I will take this quarter because none of you would dare to take it from me.”

The other hunters slunk away hungry. As he limped off, the fox grumbled, “You may share in the work of a bully, but you’ll never share in his riches.”
