The legend of Lunar New Year!

Happy Lunar New Year!
农历新年是一个有着几千年前历史的传统节日。
Lunar New Year is a holiday that dates back thousands of years.
这是最重要的时刻，
It's the most important time,
在中国，新一年的好运开始了。
another year of good fortune is beginning in China.
空中绽放着灿烂的烟火，
Fireworks pop high in the sky,
街道上舞龙舞狮，
dragon dance in the streets,
还有美味而丰盛的团圆年夜饭。
and feast on a delicious reunion dinner with plates and plates of homemade food.
今天农历新年充满了幸福，
with plates and plates of homemade food.
但根据传说，一开始并不是这样的。
but according to legend it didn't start out that way.
很久很久以前，在中国，
A long long time ago in China,
有一只又大又可怕的野兽，名叫夕。
there was a big scary nasty beast named Xi.
他有尖锐的牙齿，
He had razor-sharp teeth, 
锋利的爪子和凶狠的咆哮。
glant claws and a really mean growl.
他大部分时间住在荒野里，
Most of the time he lived in the wilderness,
但在一年中最黑暗的夜晚，
but on the darkest night of the year，
当新月升起的时候，
when the new moon was in the sky，
他会偷偷溜进村子，吓走所有看见的人，
he would sneak into the village and scare everyone in sight, 
即使是动物。
even the animals.
人们非常害怕新月初升的夜晚。
People dreaded the new moon for many many years.
直到一个叫“年”的聪明男孩教了他们三件事:

夕怕响声、火和红色。
the Xi was afraid of loud noises, fire and the color red.
当夕再来的时候，村民们进行了反击，
The next time the  Xi came,the villagers fought back,
他们拼命地敲鼓，
they hit their drums as loud as they could,
点燃他们所有的爆竹，
lit every firecracker they had,
从头到脚都穿着红色衣服。
and wore the color red from head to toe.
夕吓跑了，再也没回来。
Xi ran far away and never came back.
在那之后，人们开始庆祝新月而不是害怕它。
After that the people started celebrating the new moon instead of fearing it. 
庆祝活动变成了一个为期15天的家庭聚餐和互相祝福的节日。
That celebration became a 15 days festival of family food and good fortune。
叫农历新年。
called Lunar New Year.
