How to keep fit has increasingly become the main subject of many modern artworks. In the picture above, lady is having a meal including pizza, cola, and doughnuts. She is also taking a pill labeled "Special Drug for Weight Loss". thinking she would be thinner soon. The cartoonist intends to draw public attention to a self-deceiving way of losing weight popular among young people.
Many factors have contributed to the phenomenon, but one in particular stands out. In recent years, youngsters have shown a growing eagerness for quick success. Undergraduates hope to land a well-paid job upon graduation while new employees desire to become rich overnight. When people with this mentality seek to loseweight, they tend to take weight-losing drugs or to adopt measures that they believe produce results quickly.
However, this quick-success attitude can hardly help people slim down. Worse, because these people have every confidence in the drugs, they may eat more junk food and thus have a greater risk of diseases such as high blood pressure and fatty liver. Therefore, we should encouroage young people to eat less sugar and salt and to spend more time on outdoor activities. Yet, the long-term solution to the problem is to make them believe that making progress one step at a time is the key to success.
