Every year, families around the world get together to decorate (装饰) their Christmas trees. Blinking (闪烁的) lights and bright bulbs are the most common decorations. But there’s another one that you probably already know about － papercuts.
Although the styles of Christmas papercuts are very different from the Chinese art of papercutting, they are also similar in some ways. They both have beautiful designs made out of simple paper. Christmas papercuts usually have a Christmas theme. They often look like snowflakes (雪花). Some people are able to create detailed (精细的) scenes, or even phrases (短语) like “Let it snow!” and “Merry X-mas!”
I think one reason why people like these papercut decorations is that they are cheap and easy to make. You can find lots of patterns (图案) online that you can just print out and cut. It’s simple enough that even kids can do it － in fact, I remember making my first papercut decorations when I was in elementary school. I made simple stars and snowflakes along with the rest of my classmates.
However, some of my friends have much fancier (花哨的) papercut decorations. With a bit of time and patience (耐心), it’s possible to create great designs with them. To me, they look a bit more unique than “normal” decorations. It’s fun to help my friends decorate their trees each year and see what they’ve come up with.
