Hermes is the messenger of Gods, charming and likable. He was rather mischievous and roguish, often playing tricks to demonstrate his cunning. 

Zeus was enamored with one of the Pleiades, Maia. However, in order to see her, he had to sneak away from his sleeping wife. Hermes was born at dawn on the fourth day of the month. By noon, Hermes was strong enough to escape and sneak out of the cave. He used the shell of a tortoise and the seven strings of sheep gut to make the lyre.
