The bird with the thorn in its breast, it follows an immutable law; it is driven by it knows not what to impale itself, and die singing. At the very instant the thorn enters there is no awareness in it of the dying to come; it simply sings and sings until there is not he life left to utter another note. But we, when we put the thorns in our breasts, we know. We understand. And still we do it. Still we do it.

澳大利亚当代著名作家。除享誉世界的《荆棘鸟》外，还创作另外12部长篇小说，一部传记。她也写散文和杂文，甚至写音乐剧。《荆棘鸟》这本书在西方文坛被誉为“继《飘》之后最成功的家世小说和爱情传奇”
