Tencent Holdings, the Chinese investment holding company, in an SEC filing on March 24, acquired five percent of Tesla, the U.S. electric carmaker. Based on regulatory filing, Tencent’s investment provided Tesla with an additional cash cushion as it prepares to launch the Tesla Model 3. According to Forbes, Tencent is worth almost 280 billion dollars on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Tencent helps operate one of the most popular social messaging applications in China, WeChat.
