Let’s talk about universities in North America today. 今天我们来聊聊北美的大学。For undergraduate studies in Canada, 对于加拿大的本科学习来说，我们就用University 这个单词。但是在美国，in the US, 人们会说college。I am going to college next year. 我明年读大学（特指本科）。If you have a dream school that you want to go to（如果你心中有一所梦校）， then you should apply early (那你就要尽早申请)。在美国，最好的大学就是众所周知的8所常青藤大学, Ivy League Universities, 包括了 Harvard，Yale, Princeton, Columbia University, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth。除此之外，麻省理工大学 MIT 和加州的Stanford 大学，以及Chicago University, 这些都是最最难录取的顶尖级大学。Every year, there are thousands and thousands of students applying from all over the world （每年都有来自于全世界成千上万的学生申请）。What’s so special about these top universities (这些顶尖大学都有什么特别的地方呢)？Best professors(最好的教授), best resources （最好的资源） and best students （最好的学生），这些都对学生毕业后的best career path （职业道路）奠定了坚固的基础 （strong foundation）. That’s why we need to apply early (这就是我们为什么要尽早申请）。美国大学录取方式是 holistic approach (全方位录取）， 要看学生的extra curricular activities, 包括volunteer (义工），club leadership （俱乐部领导），competition （竞赛），family responsibility （家庭责任感）。
