A hobby is something that we enjoy doing very much. It can be almost anything we do in our spare time for pleasure and relaxation. Some people like sports and the open air so they pursue outdoor activities，such as climbing mountains, fishing, traveling, cycling, playing badminton or tennis and so on. Others choose to stay indoors, watching television, reading, listen to music, painting pictures, playing cards, mahjong or chess,or surfing the Internet. Still others prefer to adle around, doing nothing at all.

Hobbies offer pleasure and help people relax after a busy day's work and study too. They also tell you a lot about a person. By asking about and knowing one's habits, we can gain certain insight into the person's personality and character. Someone who goes hunting and travelling during weekends, maybe a bit on the active or energetic side; someone who prefers sitting and reading or writing may be more of a solitary and reserved type.

Nowadays, a lot of clubs and websites are available for those who share the same hobbies. For example, a football fan can always join a club or access a website to communicate with other fans. In some cases, people meet friends through their hobbies.
