The centipede Housekeeper 蜈蚣管家

A single woman wanted someone to help her with the household chores, so she decided to get a pet to help out.

一个单身女人想找个人帮她做家务，于是她决定找一只宠物来帮忙。

She went to the local pet shop and asked the owner for advice on a suitable animal.

她来到当地的一家宠物店，想店主征求意见，看看什么动物比较合适。

The owner suggested a dog, but the woman said, "Nah,dogs can't do dishes."

店主建议买只狗，可是那个女人却说：“不行，狗不会洗盘子。”

The owner then suggested a cat, but the woman said, "Nah, cats can't do the ironing."

店主又建议买只猫，可是那个女人又说：“不行，猫不会熨衣服。”

Finally the owner suggests a centipede, "This is the perfect pet for you.

最后店主建议找一条蜈蚣，“这对你实在是再合适不过了。

It can do anything!" "OK," the woman thought, "I'll give it a try."

蜈蚣什么都能干！”女人想：“也行，就试试吧。”

So she bought it and took it home.

于是，她买了条蜈蚣带回了家。

Once home she told the centipede to wash the dishes.

一到家，她就让蜈蚣洗盘子。

The centipede looked over and there were piles and piles of dirty dishes that looked to be a month old.

蜈蚣看了看，那里有一堆堆的脏盘子，看起来一个月没洗了。

Five minutes later, all the pots were washed, dried and put away. "Great," thought the woman.

五分钟后，所有的餐具都洗干净了，也擦干摆好了。女人想：“太棒了。”

Now she told the centipede to do the dusting and vacuuming.

现在她又让蜈蚣打扫卫生、用吸尘器吸尘。

Fifteen minutes later the house was spotless.

十五分钟后，房子便打扫得一尘不染。

"Wow," thought the woman, so she decided try another idea. "Go down to the corner and get me the evening paper," she told the centipede,and off it went.

女人想：“哇！”于是，她又想试试别的主意，“去街道拐角处把我的晚报拿回来。”她告诉蜈蚣，蜈蚣就去了。

Fifteen minutes later,the centipede hadn't returned.

十五分钟过去了，蜈蚣没有回来。

Thirty minutes later and still no centipede.

三十分钟过去了，还是没回来。

 Forty-five minutes and the woman was sick of waiting, so she got up and went out to look for the centipede.

四十五分钟了，女人等得不耐烦了，就起身出去找蜈蚣。

As she opened the front door, there on the step was the centipede.

她打开前门一看，蜈蚣正坐在台阶上。

"Hey, what are you doing there?

“嘿，你在那里做什么呢?

I sent you out for the paper forty-five minutes ago and now I find you out here without the paper! what gives?"

四十五分钟前我让你去拿报纸，现在我却看到你在这里，报纸也没拿！怎么回事？”

"Hold on a minute!" said the centipede, "I'm still putting on my boots!"

“等一会儿！”蜈蚣说，“我鞋子还没穿好呢！”
