一、故事大纲

Wilbur成名之后，作者又带我们回到了人类社会。这一章，作者把我们带回Fern家的厨房。Fern的妈妈一边洗碗，一边和Fern聊天。Fern告诉她Charlotte给Wilbur讲的故事，比如蜘蛛抓到一条鱼，还有会飞的蜘蛛。妈妈越听越担心，最终决定去找Dr. Dorian，看看宝贝女儿到底怎么了。结果当Fern的妈妈把Fern的反常举动一一说给医生听，没想到医生并不觉得奇怪，反而觉得小孩子听觉敏锐，动物也许本来就会交谈。本章里妈妈对Fern的关心和医生的睿智与淡定都给C老师留下了深刻印象，让我们一起看看吧!

片段1——论“孤独”

“But Fern, darling, I wish you would play outdoors today instead of going to Uncle Homer's barn. Find some of your playmates and do something nice outdoors. You're spending too much time in that barn—it isn't good for you to be alone so much.”

“Alone?” said Fern. “Alone? My best friends are in the barn cellar. It is a very sociable place. Not at all lonely.”

赏析

在小姑娘的眼里，动物就是最好的朋友。是啊，谁说人只能和人交朋友。其实在现实生活中我们可以看到，有些动物不但能跟人类成为朋友，还能成为家人呢！

片段2——睿智的Dr. Dorian 论“神迹”

“I don't understand it. But for that matter I don't understand how a spider learned to spin a web in the first place. When the words appeared, everyone said they were a miracle. But nobody pointed out that the web itself is a miracle.”

“我根本不理解。但就这件事而言，我更不理解蜘蛛是怎么学会织网的。那些字眼出现了，每个人都说是神迹。但是没人指出，蜘蛛网本身就是个神迹。”

赏析

Dr. Dorian仿佛是人类里的Charlotte，十分睿智。虽然他仅仅出场了一次，但是他的睿智话语给我们留下深刻印象。Fern的妈妈提到蜘蛛网上的“神迹”，问Dr. Dorian如何理解，Dr. Dorian就说了上面那段话。

读完这段话，你是否也觉得医生十分机智呢？其实大自然有很多神迹。比如在没人教的情况下，蜘蛛为什么会织网呢，大树为什么会自己长出果实呢，鲜花为什么就能开出美丽的花瓣呢？仔细想来，医生先生说的话真的很有道理。

片段3——Dr. Dorian论会说话的动物

“I never heard one say anything,” he replied. “But that proves nothing. It is quite possible that an animal has spoken civilly to me and that I didn't catch the remark because I wasn't paying attention. Children pay better attention than grownups. If Fern says that the animals in Zuckerman's barn talk, I'm quite ready to believe her. Perhaps if people talked less, animals would talk more. People are incessant talkers—I can give you my word on that.”

赏析

正因为医生对大自然的敬畏，对世界的理解远超过了我们每一个人，所以当Fern的妈妈问他动物能否说话时，他才会这样回答。

片段4——美国人的育儿观

“Avery is always fine. Of course, he gets into poison ivy and gets stung by wasps and bees and brings frogs and snakes home and breaks everything he lays his hands on. He's fine.”

“艾弗里一直都很好。当然，他对毒蔓藤感兴趣，也被黄蜂和蜜蜂蛰，也把青蛙啦蛇啦带回家，拿到手的一切东西都能破坏掉。他挺好的。”

赏析

Fern的妈妈跟Dr. Dorian谈起儿子Avery时，她说了上面这段话。

在一个美国妈妈的眼里，一个小孩，每天与大自然接触，做着与自己年龄和天性相符的事情，这样挺好的。我们不妨想想，要是在中国呢？如果Avery依然每天疯玩，而不是去参加各种培训班，比如奥数培训、才艺培训，有多少中国妈妈会说“He is always fine”呢？
