在世纪之交，70人居住在这里，但到1961年，人口减少至一个只有五口人的麦克里一家，后来这个岛就没人居住了。英国广播公司曾用这个岛作为“社会实验”的基地，让36个人作为一个社区住在塔兰赛岛一年，只有29个人坚持了12个月。
