LESSON THREE: BRITISH PITCH GLIDES
Some, but not all Received-British speakers use pitch glides. Follow the instructions on the CD for creating upward glides on the following sentences. Of course, the under-lined words need not always be stressed. They serve as examples of possible pitch glides in these sentences.
- I just don't know.
- I am not going to argue with you.
- Don't lose your heads in the Tower of London.
- He gave an incredible speech at Hyde Park Corner.
Now listen to the recorded instructions for using downward glides on some of the words of the National Anthem of the United Kingdom.
God save our gracious Queen; long live our noble Queen.
God save the Queen.
Send her victorious, happy and glorious, long to reign over us.
God save the Queen.
