“Ella and Zoe do everything together. But when they compete for the chocolate drive prize, their friendship is put to the test!
Chapter Three
Zoe’s house is a hive of activity. Zoe is going to win this competition. She is going to beat Ella! Zoe wants to get the Gold Star Award! She has checked her chocolate stash. She has counted the number of bars. Twice. Zoe has thirty bars to sell in just a week. She’d better hurry if she wants to beat Ella. Who can Zoe sell her bars to? She has an idea.
Zoe marches up to her big brother’s room. Will is eleven years old. He has black hair like Zoe. It sticks up in funny spikes on top of his head. He likes to play soccer and computer games. Zoe thinks soccer and computer games are boring.
Today, Willis playing on the computer. Zoe knocks loudly yon the door.' ‘Hi, Will,’ Zoe says.
‘What do you want, Zoe?’ Will asks. He doesn’t take his eyes off the computer screen. He sighs. Little sisters can be annoying sometimes. They always seem to interrupt in the middle of a game!
‘Do you want some chocolate?’ Zoe asks. Will swivels around in his chair. ‘Did you say chocolate?’ he asks. Zoe smiles sweetly. ‘Yes, Will. It’ll cost you just two dollars.’
‘Hmmmmm,’ says Will. ‘I don’t know if I have any pocket money left.’ He stops the computer game. He goes to his sock drawer and pulls out a jar. Yes! Will has found two dollars.
‘Here you go, Zoe,’ Will says, putting the coins in her hand. She gives him one chocolate bar. ‘Thanks, Will!’ Zoe says.
Will has already opened the chocolate and is eating a piece. Zoe puts the money in her pocket.
Zoe is doing well. She has already sold one of the chocolate bars! She has already made two dollars. There are only twenty-nine bars left to sell. Who else can she sell them to? She sits down to write a list.
Zoe tries to think about all the people she knows who might like chocolate.
Zoe writes these names down: Zoe still has a long way to go. That night, Ella and Zoe are tired. They have been thinking a lot about chocolate. They both dream about winning the Gold Star Award.
They are pleased with themselves. Zoe has now sold three bars. One to Mummy, one to Daddy and one to Will. Ella has also sold three bars. Mum and Dad bought one each, and even Max bought one – Mum lent him the money! But he is not allowed to eat it yet. Mum put it in the fridge on the top shelf. No-one can reach it there.
