The US Navy submarines are now being armed with a powerful laser.

The idea is very similar to something out of an action movie. The laser is known as a High Energy Laser(HEL). It can reach up to 300 kilowatts and a maximum of 500 kilowatts! That is a lot of energy in one blast since an average resident in the country consumes about 867 kilowatts per month.

The best place to install this laser on a submarine would be into the periscope system. The system allows people inside the submarine to see what's going on above water. The current technology is quite advanced, with 360-degree cameras that are capable of taking high-resolution photos.

The laser can shoot anything as long as the scope surfaces above the water for a short time.
