Lanterns originated in Eastern Han Dynasty and were originally used primarily for lighting. In the Tang Dynasty, people used lanterns to celebrated the peaceful life. Since then, lanterns have become popular in many parts of the world. Lanterns are usually made of thin paper of bright colors with varied shapes and sizes. In traditional Chinese culture, red lanterns symbolizes a happy life and thriving business and usually hung up during festivals such as Spring Festival, Lantern Festival and National Day. Nowadays, red lanterns can also be seen in many parts of the world.
