Day107：词根sert= join + 放弃，抛弃

1、insert

[ɪn'sɜːt]

v. 插入；嵌入

to insert a bookmark into a book  把书签插入书中

2、assert

[əˈsɜːt]

v. （坚决）主张，断言

She asserted that she was innocent. 

她坚称自己清白无辜。

assertive  adj. 果断的，积极的，自信的

3、*exert

[ɪɡ'zɜːt]

v. 运用（权力）；施加（影响力）

He exerted all his authority to make them accept the plan.

他利用他的所有权力让他们接受这个计划。

He exerted considerable influence on the thinking of the scientific community on these issues. 

他对科学界在这些问题上的思考施加了相当大的影响。

4、desert

['dezət]

n. 沙漠，荒漠    v. [dɪ'zɜːt] 遗弃，抛弃，离弃

Mrs. Roding’s husband deserted her years ago.

5、*abandon

v.  遗弃，放弃

记 “一个笨蛋”，赶紧丢掉

We had to abandon the car and walked.

6、discard

v. 扔掉（不要的东西）；抛弃（旧的思想观念）

记dis否定+card纸牌→这张牌不要了

Discard any old cleaning materials.

She discarded old beliefs. 

她抛弃了旧有的信仰。

7、*deprive

[dɪ'praɪv]

v. 使丧失，剥夺

记dep看作deep+rive看作river→河水太深夺去了他的生命

deprive sb of sth

He was deprived of his freedom/rights. 

他被剥夺了自由和权力。

8、*derive

[dɪ'raɪv]

v. 得到，获得; 源自，源于 (~ from)

记deprive去掉p就“得到”了一个新的单词derive  

Many students derived enormous satisfaction from the course.

许多学生从这门课程中得到了巨大的满足。

This word is derived from Latin. 

该词源自拉丁语。

9、strip

 [strɪp]

v. 除去，剥去; 脱去（……的）衣服   n. 条，带，狭条

~ sb of sth  剥夺（头衔、财产、权力等）

Captain Evans was found guilty and stripped of his rank.

上尉埃文斯被判有罪，被剥夺了军衔。

10、rid

[rɪd]

v. 使摆脱   

You must rid yourself of this gloomy mood.

你必须使自己摆脱这种闷闷不乐的忧郁情绪。

He opened the windows to get rid of the smell. 

他打开窗户把气味散出去。
