Once upon a time, there lived a caterpillar on the tree. Well, not a very happy creature he was. How he hated his bulky, slow body.

“Look at those bees, look at those ants. oh, look at me, OOOOMPH. How I wish I could fly and run about like them.” But, try as he might, the caterpillar could not fly. He just kept crawling and kept eating voraciously at the leaves.

The naughty ants didn’t help. “Hey, slow-poch caterpillar.How much do you eat? Take a break and keep some leaves for the rest of us!”

“What to do? I feel so hungry all the time!”

“Eat little one! All this is just the process of growing up.”

“How much more does he need to grow Granny?”

“Oh, quite a bit. And he will grow in a way you will not be even recognise. Eat and be well. Don’t let anyone trouble you.”

“Ooooom,oooom, thank you granny. But I do not like myself very much.”

“Now! Don’t you insult Mother Nature by saying that!She has made all her creatures as beautiful as they could be. Wait, you still have a lot of growing up to do and you are perfect just the way you are! Remember that.”

The caterpillar kept crawling and eating until summer give way to autumn, and the tree shed their red, orange and yellow leaves.Making the world seem inflamed in crimson. As the leaves fell, little crickets and bees and beetles flew with the leaves, chasing them all the way to the ground.The caterpillar too wanted to chase them, but he was just too heavy and too unwieldy for it. He would just fall with a thud.

“Oh! How I wish I could fly with these leaves or run after them….”

Soon, autumn started making way for winter as the days grew shorter and the nights became colder. One day, the caterpillar felt sleepy, as sleepy as he never felt before. He found a strong bough to rest in and he wove a thick blanket around him. Then, with one big yawn the caterpillar fell into a deep deep sleep.
