Life is full of experiences andtrials that you never saw coming. Sometimes what we expect to happen and thereality of the situation are 2 very different things. Expectations are nice tohave. They give you goals, purpose, joy and even something to look forward to,but you have to understand that life happens. you’re not always incontrol.
Some expectations are good tohave and some are unhealthy. Here’s a list of expectations that if you have,you need to change. By changing certain expectations in your life, you are openingyourself up to new experiences, new ways of thinking and even a greater senseof accomplishment that you otherwise could not have received.
1. Stop Expecting People to bePerfect.
If you have this mindset, youwill always be disappointed. People will never live up to your expectations.There’s nothing wrong with having high expectations for people, but understandthat when they fail, and they will, they still tried. Be understanding anddon’t expect perfection.
2. Stop Expecting the Worstfrom People.
On the flip side, if you’realways expecting people to fail, you’re not giving them the chance to succeed.Encourage those around you. Help them, teach them. That’s how they will growand be able to accomplish hard things.
3. Stop Expecting People to Payfor You.
Your finances are yourresponsibility. You shouldn’t expect people to pay for your entertainment, yourbills or even your groceries. Get in control of your money. Once you have abudget, stick to it. Just because all your friends go out to lunch doesn’t meanyou have to. There are differences between needs and wants—if you wantsomething, save up for it; don’t expect your friends or family to pitch in andget it for you.
4. Stop Expecting Things toAlways Go Wrong.
Whatever streak of bad luck youmay think you’ve been having, you shouldn’t come to expect that out ofeverything. Learn to stay positive. If you look for the good in things you willfind them, and it’s the same with bad things. If your whole focus is onsituations never turning out how you want them to, they never will.
5. Stop Expecting Fairness inEverything.
Life isn’t always fair.Sometimes you don’t get the recognition or reward for your hard work; that’sjust how it is. Learn to be ok with giving something your all and not expectinganything in return.
6. Stop Expecting Things to beEasy.
If you only ever do thesimplest things, you’ll never do anything great. Life is hard. Trials will comeyour way that you don’t feel prepared for. But know that you can stay strongand do hard things. Anything worth achieving in life requires hard work,diligence and self-discipline. If you only strive for mediocrity, that’s allyou’ll ever be.
7. Stop Expecting Something forNothing.
If you don’t put any effortinto accomplishing something you want, you’re not going to get the results youdesire. If you want to lose weight, you have to make changes by eating healthyand exercising. You can’t eat what you want, when you want and still expect tolook amazing. If you want something, then work your hardest to achieve it.
8. Stop Expecting People toChange.
People are habitual. We likethings to be constant. It’s comfortable. We can change, but it takes time. Ifyou desire someone else to change, you need to start with yourself. You don’thave the power to change anyone other than yourself, and once you realize that,your life will be a lot happier.
9. Stop Expecting People toDrop Everything for You.
You’re not the only onewho has bad days. Friends and family members should be someone you can count onto help you when life gets hard, but don’t abuse these relationships. Learn totake care of yourself. Being independent is healthy. You shouldn’t have toinsist that you do everything on your own, but you don’t want to keep puttingyour friends and family members in a position that causes them to miss out onimportant events in their lives because they are helping you.
