Good morning. My voice is still not normal today so please bear with me as I try to get over this cold I caught.
Today we are going to practice words that end with ‘d’ and ‘g’. This is a problem area for many Chinese English speakers. As in the other lesson that I gave you on the ‘st’ sound, many Chinese English speakers will add an ‘ah’ sound to many words ending in ‘d’ or ‘g’.
Words
dog
pig
good
food
bad
dig
The secret to saying these words right is being able to simply put a little air behind a certain way of positioning your mouth.
For example, the word ‘dog’ is pronounce ‘dog.’ Many Chiense speakers want to to ‘dog-ah’. Don’t say it this way. You relax your jaw with your mouth open. The sound comes from the back of your mouth near your throat. When you position your mouth in making the ‘g’ sound (the same way you say it in Pinyin), then, you simply push a little air over that position to make the sound the right way.
Practice
The dog is quite cute.
The pig is happy in the sunshine.
There are good people in every country.
Healthy food is necessary to live a happy life.
The weather was quite bad during the storm.
The workers were able to dig a big hole.

If you want to leave your practice pronunciation in the group here, I’ll be happy to listen to it and comment on it for you. If you do it wrong, I’ll tell you. If you do it good, I’ll praise you.
Remember, you can learn English faster, easier and happier when you know how. I’ll teach you how.
Have a wonderful day!!
Michael
