A: Why didn't you call me yesterday?

B: I tried to get hold of you, but I couldn't get through.

A: What time did you call?

B: I tried all morning!

A: Then I can't understand why you couldn't get through.

B: I kept getting a busy signal.

A: Hmm...

keep (on) doing sth: to continue doing something or to do the same thing many times 一直或反复多次做某事

I keep telling you, but you won't listen! 我一直跟你说，你就是不听！

busy signal n. the sound you hear when you call someone and they are already speaking on the phone 忙音

hmm interjection a sound that you make to express doubt, a pause, or disagreement （语气词）嗯（表示怀疑、停顿或不同意）

"Which one do you like best?" "Hmm. I'm not sure." “你最喜欢哪一个？”“嗯，我不确定。”

"He says he's doing it for our benefit." "Hmm, I'm still not convinced." “他说他这么做是为了我们好。”“嗯，我还是不信。”
