孔子的一位学生说

If you make promisses within the bounds of what is right

加入你在争议范围内作出承诺

you will be able to keep your word

你就能够遵守诺言

if you confine earnesstness within the bounds of judgment and good tast

假如你把热诚限制于判断力与良好品味的范围内

you will keep out of discomfiture and insult

你将免于挫败与羞辱

If you make friends of those with thom you ought to 

假如你与那些值得交朋友的人交往

you will be able to depend upon them

你就能够依靠他们
