China’s economy grew by 6.7%, year-on-year, in the first quarter—a seven-year low. However, lending, retail-sales and industrial-output data for March suggested the slowdown may be bottoming out. Before its meeting in Washington this weekend, the IMF raised its forecast for Chinese GDP growth this year to 6.5% from 6.3%, while trimming its global prediction from 3.4% to 3.2%.
