No Smiles Today_Present Sense

Olivia and George (Karina) are goodfriends. They have so much fun together. They share secrets in class. They runraces on the way home. Olivia is always cheerful. Today, Olivia walks into theclassroom slowly. Her head is bent down. She looks sad. ‘Does someone scoldyou?’ asks George. Olivia shakes her head. She sits down and doesn’t look up.She doesn’t answer ‘Present’ when Mr. Ho calls her name. Mr. Ho calls again,louder this time. “Olivia Wen!” Olivia raises her hand.

‘Do you have a sore throat?’ her teacherasks.

Olivia shakes her head. Her cheeks are red.And it looks like she has a fever.

‘Are you feeling okay?’ Mr. Ho asks. 

She nods, still not daring to look up.

‘Why does Olivia look so sad?’

‘Is your little brother okay?’

'Is your puppy okay?

'Is your grandmother okay.’

Olivia keeps nodding her head to each of herfriends. She does not look up. George wants to make her smile. He has an idea!He takes out something from his bag. As he runs to show it to Olivia, it slipsout of his hands. Olivia sees something flying towards her and she grabs it.It is a Big green rubber frog! Olivia ’s eyes fly open. She opens hermouth to laugh.  

That’s when George and her friends see why shehas not smiled or talked all day!

Four of her front teeth are missing!
