家政课爵士乐团PSAT报名校报选题第五周

忙碌于比赛合唱团试音PSAT报名校报撰文，只有在家政做饭里找点儿轻松，Lindsay表示很羡慕中国能放假一周。她的一周很辛苦。

Hello, Ximalaya, I am Lindsay from New York. How was your last week? I was so jealous that you had the whole first week of October off（放假）! I had a very tiring week.

是啊，十月最好的季节能有一整周休息度假，真是太幸福了。这里是学期第五周，真正的学校忙碌都一样样来了。LIndsay， you look exhausted（精疲力尽）, what made you so tired?

Cross Country training! It is extremely hard! My muscles ache every day.

Cross Country 越野长跑。是课后选上的训练项目。学校体育分为Fall Season和Spring Season二季，大概得有十几种不同体育项目可供选择。对于学校不提供的体育项目，家长也可以说服教育管理委员Board of Education拨预算。我就亲眼见过一位家长在公开会议上要求提供体操训练，后来体操果然就加上了。Lindsay, what do you do during Cross Country?

We run through woods, over hills, on flat grass, on a track, and a park near our school. The coach selects where we go, and it is not that different every time. Most of the time we run on soccer fields but at some point we will run on a trail（山野小路）. I will have to run 1 to 1.5 miles every day after school, 5 days a week. We also do some stretches or drills. It takes 2 hours of my after school time.

That is hard! 一个英里是1609米，1个半英里就是大约2400米，而且包括野外，有上下坡，Stretch拉伸，drill, 一般指运动场上的热身准备，那的确是非常耗体力的。

I actually had my first meet on Thursday. It was a little rainy but I didn’t mind. We ran for one and half miles on a wooded trail in a different town. There was a lot of up and down running that we had to do. I came in 41st place out of 52 girls, which isn’t bad. There are eight meets in my cross country season. In the last four we will have to run 2 miles.

所谓Meet，就是各校之间组织的比赛，LIndsay刚刚跑了今年第一个Meet。这个赛季有八个Meet。 这也是了解其它学校的机会。有时主场有时客场。We wish you great success Lindsay! Is there anything you feel relaxed with at school?

There is family consumer science which is pretty easy. I wouldn’t call it my relaxing class, but it’s definitely（确定的） more fun than everything else.

Family Consumer Science, 简单说来是他们的家政课，今年是厨房里学做饭。

Yes, it is a cooking class. We bake and sew sometimes but we’re not up to that yet. Instead we are just learning kitchen safety right now. It’s pretty fun once we begin to bake and my teacher is very funny. One of my friends really enjoys baking and so she has gone to a cooking summer camp where you make different types of baked （烘烤）goods.

Anything else you want to share?

On Friday I auditioned for vocal jazz. It did not go very well. I had to sing a higher line that I normally could sing but my throat hurt a lot that day and so when I tried to sing my voice just completely disappeared! Vocal jazz is basically a really good choir where they are divided into sopranos and alto. Soprano is for people who sing in a higher pitch and alto is for people with a lower singing tone.

Vocal, 声音的。Vocal Jazz就是爵士声乐，学校有这个合唱团，Audition就是为了参加任何一种演出，你得去试音试戏或者试奏试演以获得选拔的一个过程。祝你好运LIndsay。

For high schoolers, the PSAT registration closed this week. The Preliminary SAT, also known as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a preparatory version of the SAT exam. Most students choose to take it in 11th grade, but many 10th graders choose to take it as well for practice. But the score will not be recorded on the tenth grader’s transcript. Stella, as a 10th grader, did not choose to take it because she will have to go to San Francisco for her cousin’s wedding on the same day as the PSAT. Stella has joined school newspaper as a contributor. She decided to focus on the opinions section, and has decided to write an article on the recent hot topic about Supreme Court （高等法院）Judge nominee（法官提名人） Brett Kavanaugh.
