1.*adapt [ə'dæpt]
v. 适应；改编 
It took me a while to adapt to the new job. 
我过了一段时间才适应了新工作。

2.*adjust [ə'dʒʌst]
v. 调整，调节；适应 
If the chair is too high, you can adjust it to suit you. 
如果椅子太高了，你可以把它调到适合你的高度。
adjustment n. 调整，调节

3.*accommodate [ə'kɒmədeɪt]
v. 为……提供住宿；容纳；使适应
Some find it hard to accommodate themselves to the new working conditions.
有些人觉得很难适应新的工作环境。
accommodate with   提供；以……供应
We always try to accommodate our clients with financial assistance if necessary.
必要时，我们总是尽力为客户提供财务上的帮助。

4.*accustom [ə'kʌstəm]
vt. 使习惯于
o accustom yourself to the climate  适应气候
She is accustomed to waking at 6 a.m. 
她习惯了在6点起床。

5.wise [waɪz]
adj. 明智的；英明的；聪明的
I think we’ve made a wise choice. 
我想我们做了一个明智的选择。

6.wisdom ['wɪzdəm]
n. 智慧；明智
I certainly hope to gain a little wisdom as I grow older.

7.wit [wɪt]

8.brilliant ['brɪlj(ə)nt]

adj. 精明的，狡猾的
It was a shrewd move to buy your house just before property prices started to rise.

a cunning plan/ploy  诡诈的计划／花招 
He’s a very cunning man.
