She threw her arms around the Lion's neck and kissedhim, patting his big head tenderly.  Thenshe kissed the Tin Woodman, who was weeping in a way most dangerous to hisjoints.  But she hugged the soft, stuffedbody of the Scarecrow in her arms instead of kissing his painted face, andfound she was crying herself at this sorrowful parting from her lovingcomrades.

For she was sitting on the broad Kansas prairie, andjust before her was the new farmhouse Uncle Henry built after the cyclone hadcarried away the old one.  Uncle Henrywas milking the cows in the barnyard, and Toto had jumped out of her arms andwas running toward the barn, barking furiously.

Aunt Em had just come out of the house to water thecabbages when she looked up and saw Dorothy running toward her.

"My darlingchild!" she cried, folding the little girl in her arms and covering herface with kisses.  "Where in theworld did you come from?"
