The Paradox of Our Times
[00:09.21]    We have bigger houses and smaller families;
[00:13.51] more conveniences, but less time; 
[00:16.06]we have more degrees, but less common sense;
[00:19.14] more knowledge, but less judgment;
[00:21.67] more experts, but more problems; 
[00:24.23]more medicine, but less wellness.
[00:27.03]    We spend too recklessly, laugh too little, 
[00:30.66]drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, 
[00:34.16]stay up too late, get up too tired,
[00:37.15] read too little, watch TV too often, 
[00:40.40]and pray too seldom.
[00:42.58]    We have multiplied our possessions, 
[00:44.87]but reduced our values. 
[00:46.72]We talk too much, love too little and lie too often.
[00:50.83] We have learned how to make a living, but not a life;
[00:53.98] we’ve added years to life, not life to years. 
[00:58.05]    We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; 
[01:01.40]wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. 
[01:04.64]We spend more, but have less; 
[01:06.98]we buy more, but enjoy it less. 
[01:09.53]    We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, 
[01:12.27]but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.
[01:15.53] We have conquered outer space, but not inner space. 
[01:19.44]We’ve split the atom, but not our prejudice; 
[01:23.05]we write more, but learn less; 
[01:25.50]plan more, but accomplish less. 
[01:27.84]    We have learned to rush, but not to wait; 
[01:31.35]we have higher incomes, but lower morals. 
[01:34.50]We build more computers to hold more information,
[01:37.34] to produce more copies,
[01:39.22] but have less communication. 
[01:41.27]We’ve become long on quantity, but short on quality. 
[01:45.52]    These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, 
[01:49.59]tall men and short character, 
[01:52.37]steep profits and shallow relationships. 
[01:54.84]More leisure and less fun; 
[01:56.98]more kinds of food, but less nutrition; 
[01:59.73]two incomes, but more divorce; 
[02:02.00]fancier houses, but broken homes. 
[02:04.91]    This is a strange and confusing age. 
[02:08.19]There are so many paradoxes in our time
