Employees Needed for the E-Era
[00:07.00]The Internet alone does not make up the New Economy
[00:11.38]though it is an integral part of it.
[00:14.21]American President Bill Clinton has defined the New Economy
[00:18.59]as an economy that's fuelled by technology,
[00:21.55]driven by entrepreneurship and innovations.
[00:24.39]Technology, entrepreneurship and innovations
[00:28.27]are keywords that sum up the new era.
[00:30.73]The New Economy has also led to
[00:34.35] the mushrooming of IT or Internet-related firms
[00:38.39]as though the mere setting up of such a company
[00:41.42] is a guarantee of high profits.
[00:43.97]This means businesses must have
[00:47.31]good human resource management practices
[00:49.67]so as not to lapse talented employees.
[00:53.28]There are two ways to do this.
[00:55.57]First, an atmosphere that encourages
[00:58.69] innovations must be created.
[01:00.72]Employees should not be penalized for new ideas that fail
[01:05.31]but must be rewarded for those that work.
[01:08.70]Besides, workers must be made to feel
[01:12.16]that they can enjoy reasonable benefits.
[01:14.50]Technology is a tool,
[01:17.11]and a change in mindset is required
[01:19.21]to do away with a hierarchical system.
[01:22.49]They are related to entrepreneurship and innovations.
[01:26.21]What are needed are people who can think independently.
[01:30.26]A flat organization reduces the layers of management.
[01:34.63]This is absolutely fine if every worker
[01:38.17]is capable of thinking and working on his own.
[01:40.76]But there are many who feel insecure
[01:44.14]when they can no longer rely on others.
[01:46.67]They will have to learn the new mode of thinking.
[01:49.95]Workers need to develop the habit of independent thinking,
[01:54.43]but this will be a gradual learning process.
[01:57.50]While many may end up as losers in the New Economy,
[02:01.33]the winners will reap increasingly huge profits.
[02:05.05]Invariably, the winners will be those
[02:08.40]prepared to embrace technology,
[02:09.97]entrepreneurship and innovations.
