The six mermaids were happy. All day, they played in the castle and its garden.
They played with the fish like we play with dogs. The garden was very pretty. It
had many red and blue flowers. There was fruit on the plants. The fruit shone like
gold. On clear days, you could see the sun. It looked like a purple flower far above
the sea floor.
Each princess had her own spot in the garden. They put flowers and other
pretty things into their spots. Each one was different. The oldest sister made hers
into a whale shape. The second sister made hers look like a mermaid. The little
mermaid made hers into the shape of a sun. All of her flowers were red, like rays
of the sun.
