Pride season is always a high point of the summer, it’s a chance to celebrate the huge contribution that LGBT people of all backgrounds make to our national life.

Thanks to the work of generations of campaigners, our country has come a long way. 

But there is still much more to do to build a future where the bigotry and discrimination that LGBT people still face is made a thing of the past. 

That’s why last year the Government launched our LGBT Action Plan. It makes 75 commitments to improve the lives of LGBT people. 

We’ve already made a strong start with a third of the commitments already achieved, and our work goes on. 

Finally, my message to everyone celebrating Pride is this: I will only be your Prime Minister for a few more weeks. But I will be your ally for the rest of my life.
