1. 对话

Kevin: So, I went out to dinner with Laura’s parents yesterday.

Bobby: Oh? How’d that go?

Kevin: Fine. Just a little weird. They’re really pushing us to get married.

Bobby: Oh yeah I get that. You guys aren’t getting any younger right?

Kevin: Sure but we’ve only been dating for a year. Not sure if I’m ready to get married.

Bobby: I don’t know what to tell you, man. That’s just China.

Kevin: I guess I just feel like I need to focus on my career. Whole marriage thing seems like a lot of trouble right now.

Bobby: Eh. Don’t worry about it. Just do it and get it out of the way.

2. 划重点

1) So

a. = 那… (用来转移话题或者引入新的话题)

例：

So, how was the weather today?

2) How’d ... go?

a. （某件事情）进行得如何？

b. How’d your的弱读，读成[ʤu]、[ʤʊ]

例：

How'd your meeting go?

How’d your interview go?

3) Push s.b. to do s.t.

a. = 催 | 逼迫

例：

She’s pushing me to get a job.

I’m pushing my boss to give me a raise.

4) Get (engaged/married/divorced)

a. Get engaged = 订婚

b. Get married = 结婚

c. Get divorced = 离婚

例：

When are you guys getting married?

Did you hear they’re getting divorced? 

5) Get (that)

a. 董某件事

例：

I don’t really get math. It’s never really made sense to me.

I don’t get you. Why would you break up with her?

6) Get (any) younger

a. = 年纪越来越大了（强调应该趁年轻做某件事）

例：

You should go travelling now! You’re not getting any younger.

7) Don't know what to ...

a. = 不知道该（动词）什么

b. = 朋友不知道怎么帮你时，就可以用“I don’t know what to tell you”

例：

I don’t know what to say.

I don't know what to do.

8) Focus on

a. = 专心做某件事 | 重视某件事

例：

I need to focus on this. Can you be quiet?

I don’t want to get a girlfriend. I’m focusing on myself.

9) The whole … thing

a. = … 这件事（非常口语）

例：

The whole exercising thing is a little bit too much work.

I don't have time for the whole doctor thing.

10) Trouble

a. = 麻烦

例：

I don’t want any trouble…

I hope this isn’t too much trouble.

b. 拓展：Hassle = 麻烦

例：

This is such a hassle. 这件事特别麻烦。

11) Get ... out of the way

a. = 先把某件事办完，这样心里就踏实了

例：

Let’s just get this out of the way first.

Get your chores out of the way.
