问题1,来自于Joey 7_s:

Regarding American and British accents, for one word there might be two pronunciations.

关于美式发音和英式发音,一个单词可能会有两个不同的发音。

I didn't pay close attention to it at the beginning, which resulted in mixed pronunciations.

我一开会没有太注意,结果我的发音都混起来了。

In other words, I use some expressions in a British way sometimes, even though I have chosen an American accent.

这就是说,我有时候会用一个英式的表达方法,虽然我选的是美式发音。

So, my question is: how can I get a pure American accent? Thanks for your time!

所以,我的问题是:我怎么可能得到一个纯粹的没事发音?谢谢你的时间!

OK, so there’s two things I want to say about this problem.

我对这个问题有两件事想说。

First, this is not a big problem. OK?

首先,这不是什么大的问题,知道吗?

Because not all Americans have the same accent and not all Americans use the same expressions.

那是因为美国人都有不同的发音,而且不同美国人有不同的表达方法。

Different areas of America have different ways of speaking.

美国不同的地区有不同的说话方式。

These ways of speaking can be so different that sometimes Americans from different parts of the USA might not understand each other.

这些区别有时候会导致来自不同的地区的美国人互相听不懂对方说的话。

For example,可乐, different places in America say it very differently.

比如说可乐;美国不同地区的人都有不同的说法。

In the north, they say pop. In the south (where I’m from) they say coke. But on the east coast & the west coast, they say soda.

北方人说pop,南方人(跟我一样)说coke,可是东海岸和西海岸的人说soda

So, different people have different ways of speaking, and everyone’s speech depends on their experiences: where they’re from, where they’ve been, who their friends are, and so on.

所以,不同的人有不同的说话方式,而且每个人的说法取决于自己的经验:老家在哪、去过哪、朋友是谁、等等。

But today, the important thing is to understand there isn’t just ONE correct kind of American English.

可是今天,你需要掌握的就是:美式英语并没有所谓的“唯一正确方法。”

So, if you speak English a little differently from most Americans, that’s OK. That’s normal. Everyone speaks differently.

所以,如果你的英语跟很多美国人不一样的话,那也OK。很正常。每个人说话都不一样。

OK. That’s the first thing I want to say.

好的。那就是我想说的第一件事。

So, the second thing: if you think your English is too strange, and you really want to make your English more所谓的“American,” I’ll tell you what to do.

然后第二件事:如果你真的觉得你的英语太奇葩了、真的想让你的英语更so-called“美式”,那我告诉你怎么做。

Choose one American actor that you really like, and focus on their English.

选择一个你喜欢的美国演员,然后专注TA的英语。

Watch their movies, watch their TV shows, watch their interviews (采访), watch everything.

TA的电影、电视剧、采访、什么都要看。

And then, when you speak English, pretend that you are that person.

然后,你说英语的时候,你就假装你是TA

Speak like they speak. Use their accent, and use their expressions.

说话跟TA一样。用TA的口音、TA的表达方式。

Of course, you won’t sound exactly like that person, but you will be able to feel when a word or an expression fits that person or does not fit that person.

当然,你不会跟TA完全一样,但是你会感觉到那些单词和短语很是TA、哪些并不适合。

That way, you’ll begin to speak English in a more specific way.

那样,你就会开始说一种更具体的英文。

For example, if I want to learn Beijing Mandarin, I could listen to高晓松all the time, and then when I speak Mandarin, I just pretend that I am高晓松, and talk like he would talk.

不说,我想学习北京人的普通话,我可以天天听高晓松,然后我说普通话的时候,就假装我是高晓松,模仿他的说话方式。

Or, if I wanted to learn Taiwan Mandarin, I could choose a Taiwanese actor and study the way HE talks.

或者,想学习台湾腔普通话的话,就可以选择一个台湾演员,然后学习他的说话方式。

So, does that make sense?

所以,这个都没问题吧?

Choose one person and try to talk like that person.

选择一个人,然后尽量说话跟TA一样。

OK. Next question!

好的,下一个问题!

问题2,来自于 维清KK

美国人听到一个老外名字叫KK会是什么感觉,中国人怎么起英文名更合适呢?我女儿叫小布伊,老师能以她为案例起个英文名字么?

If you tell people your English name is KK, that’s not a problem, because it sounds like a nickname, a外号。

如果你告诉别人你的名字是KK那也没事,因为很像一种正宗的外号。

For example, if my first and last name both start with the letter K, like Kevin Kline, my friends might call me KK. That’s fine. That’s normal.

比如说,如果我的名字和姓氏都是K开头的,比如说Kevin Kline,我的朋友可能会叫我KK。那OK的。正常。

BUT, if you want to use your English name at work, at your job, then that’s a problem, because you can’t just use a nickname at work.

可是!如果你想在工作中用你的英文名,在你的事业中,那就是个问题,因为你不可能在上班的时候一直用一个外号。

You have to have a real name that sounds like a real name.

你需要一个真正的名字,听得像一个真正的名字。

So if you really like the letter K, I’d recommend you choose a name with the letter K, like Karen.

所以如果你很喜欢这个字母K,我建议你选择一个K开头的名字,比如说Karen.

There’s also Kaitlyn, Katharine, Katy, lots of K names. Choose any one you like!

还有Kaitlyn, Katharine, Katy,很多K名字。任性选!

Now, for your daughter, you said her name was小布伊.

那么,关于你的女儿,你说过她的名字是Little Buyi.

If I had to give her a name, I would give her a name that sounds like布伊。

如果我要给她起个名字的话,我会选一个发音很像Buyi的。

I could try to give her a name that has a meaning like布伊,but I have no idea what布伊means. No idea. No idea.

我可以试试给她一个意思很像Buyi的,可是我根本不知道Buyi什么意思。不知道。根本不知道。

So you can go online and look for names that start with B, and find one that sounds like布伊。

所以你可以上网搜一搜B开头的、像Buyi的名字。

But there’s a name I like, called Bowen.

可是有一个名字我挺喜欢,叫作Bowen.

It’s not a common name, and a lot of people haven’t heard of it.

这个不太常见的名字,而且很多人可能没听说过。

But if your daughter uses it, it will be a good chance for her to explain her Chinese name to other people. It could be fun!

可是你的女儿用这个名字的话,她就有可能会有机会给别人介绍一下她的中文名字。可能还挺好玩的!
