Instant noodles rebound

Both revenue and profits of China's food industry increased last year, among which the instant noodles sector regained momentum after industrial upgrade, accounting for nearly 40% of global sales, according to data released at China Instant Food Conference Press Conference.

Sales of instant noodles in China began to drop in 2013 and reached a low point of 38.5 billion units in 2016, data from the World Instant Noodles Association showed. Food industry analyst Zhu Danpeng said growth in the instant noodle market picked up in the fourth quarter of 2016 as enterprises increased efforts to woo younger consumers.

Cameron regrets Brexit vote

The British prime minister who called the 2016 Brexit referendum and then saw the public vote to leave the European Union, creating the nation's prolonged political crisis, says he is sorry for the divisions it has caused. David Cameron said in an interview published Saturday that he thinks about the consequences of the Brexit referendum "every single day" and worries "desperately" about what will happen next.

"I deeply regret the outcome and accept that my approach failed," he said. "The decisions I took contributed to that failure. I failed." The 52-year-old Cameron admitted that many people blame him for the Brexit divisions that have deepened since the referendum and will never forgive him.

Siblings affect development

Having an older brother comes with plenty of benefits. Big brothers tend to look out for their younger counterparts, and despite the occasional rocky moment here and there, many siblings enjoy life-long close relationships. However, a new study finds an interesting downside: children with older brothers take longer when it comes to developing language skills.

Researchers studied more than 1,000 children from birth to the age of five-and-a-half years old. They discovered that children with an older brother had, on average, a two-month delay in their language development compared to studied children with an older sister. As far as explaining this phenomenon, researchers have proposed two hypotheses.

The first is that older sisters tend to talk more often than older brothers, which would compensate for parents potentially being less present than they were for their first child. The second hypothesis is that older sisters usually compete with their siblings less than older brothers for their parents' attention.

Social media causes anxiety

Teens who spend more time with social media are more likely to suffer from social withdrawal, anxiety or depression, a new study has shown. Twelve- to 15-year-olds who spent more than six hours a day on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media were nearly three times more likely to have these types of internalizing mental health issues, according to the report in the journal JAMA Psychiatry.

These teens also were more than four times as likely to have both internalizing and externalizing mental health problems, researchers said. Externalizing problems include bullying, acting out and having trouble paying attention.
