阿迈勒·克鲁尼 | 范德堡大学毕业典礼演讲：鼓起勇气！

This is my first time in Tennessee, and my first ever commencement address. So bear with me. I am deeply honored and really happy to be able to celebrate this day with you.

这是我第一次来到田纳西州，也是我第一次参与毕业典礼演讲。所以还请大家多多包涵。很高兴能与在座的各位共同庆祝今天这个特殊的日子，这是我的荣幸。

I think what will define you is your courage, because that is the virtue on which all others depend. It is up to you to pick your battles, the things you care about through your careers, and the choices that you make every day.

在我看来，如果有一样东西可以成为衡量你的标准那便是勇气。因为勇气是所有人不可或缺的美德。是否接受挑战、奋力争取，决定权在你，看你是否愿意为了职业生涯中所追求的目标，以及你每次所作出的决定而勇敢前行。

But when I look at the world today, I see that courage is needed more than ever. At a time when women all over the world face physical abuse, restrictions on their ability to work, own property, travel, and even have custody over their children. We need courage.

但是，当我望向如今的世界，不禁感慨：勇气在今日比往昔任何时候都更加被需要。但全世界的女性朋友饱受欺凌虐待，工作、个人财产以及旅行的权利，甚至在获得孩子抚养权的问题上深受限制。这时，我们需要勇气。

At a time when the LGBT community in every continent struggles for equal rights, freedom from imprisonment, and even death. We need courage. And at a time when more journalists are in prison around the world than at any time in the last three decades, and even here at home, the media is under attack from the White House. We need courage.

当五湖四海的同性恋社群依旧为同等权利、为免于监禁甚至死亡而痛苦挣扎。这时，我们需要勇气。当全世界的新闻记者被抓入狱的案件比以往30年来任何时候都多，哪怕是在国内，媒体也依旧无法躲避白宫的攻击。这时，我们需要勇气。

And at time when our politicians try to conflate the terms refugee and and make us fear one another. We need courage. We need young people with the courage to say: this is our world now, and there are going to be some changes. I believe that you the Class of 2018 will show courage and my generation is counting on you.

当政客们试图将难民与恐怖分子混为一谈并试图分裂我们。这时，我们需要勇气。我们希望年轻的朋友们能勇敢地喊出：“这是我们的时代，一切将有所改变。”我相信，2018年毕业的你们定会展示出过人的勇气，而我们这一代人信任、期待着你们的表现。
