1.  Spitz fought like a wolf, said Perrault, as he looked at the bites all over Buck.

Spitz打起架来简直就像狼一样，边说佩罗边查看巴克身上遍布的伤口。

1) all over：“遍布”或者“到处都是”，介词over后面可以跟sb, 也可以接sth. or sw.

例句：

The little kid drew pictures all over the wall with crayons.

小孩把墙上涂得到处都是蜡笔画。

The rumor spread all over town.

谣言满城飞。

2) 这个词组中的over也可以当成副词来修饰形容词

After the Marathon, he was aching all over.

马拉松比赛之后，他全身酸痛。

He was wet all over because he had been caught in a heavy rain.

淋了场大雨，他全身都湿透了。

2.  No more Spitz，no more trouble．

 Spitz不在了，麻烦也没有了。

扩展：No more…, no more…

No more lies, no more distrust.

停止谎言，就能停止猜疑。

No more wars, no more death.

停止战争，就能停止荼炭生灵。

3. winner take all～赢者通吃

4.  He kept a few metres away and circled around Francois carefully.

他保持着几米远的距离，小心地绕着弗朗索瓦打转。

away: 它既可以使用在空间概念中，也可以使用在时间概念里。

空间中的away: keep a few metres away 保持几米的距离。

时间中的away: 再过几天就是我的生日了。(试翻译)

错误译法：Several days later will be my birthday. 

2个绕不过的问题：第一，several days later；第二，时态。

正确译法：My birthday is several days away.

扩展：试翻译

还有一个礼拜就要考试了. 

答案：The exams are one week away.

5.  The first night in camp Buck fought Joe, another difficult dog, and after that there were no more problems for him. 

这里的difficult是什么意思？

difficult a. 1) 难的、困难的  2) 难以相处、很难取悦、很难令其满意

例句：

1）She has always been a difficult child. 这孩子她从小就挺难带的。

2）a difficult customer 一个难弄的顾客

3）Please don’t be difficult.   请不要这么无理取闹。

6.  They were moving quickly, and covering more ground every day The snow was good and hard, and no new snow fell. The temperature dropped to 45° below zero, and didn't change.

cover基本含义：给…盖上

I covered my eyes with my hands.

我用手蒙住了眼睛。

cover转义：

1）行进、行走多少距离

We plan to cover 1/4 of the journey in 3 days. 

我们计划3天内走完1/4的行程。

2）记者对某新闻事件进行全面报道

These reports covered every aspect of the the American election. 

这些报道覆盖了美国大选的方方面面。

7. Sometimes as he lay there, he seemed to see, in a waking dream, a different fire.

waking dream

矛盾修辞法：通过看似对立甚至矛盾的用词，表达出特殊的语言效果。

visible darkness 看得见的黑暗；

expressive silence 无言胜万语；

scalding coolness 灼烧人心的冷漠。

矛盾修此法的语用效果：

通过两种不相调和，甚至截然相反的词语来描述一件事物，造成一种“出人意外的，引人入胜的”效果。
