The Miss America pageant is dropping the swimsuit competition, saying it will no longer judge contestants on their appearance. 

美国小姐选美比赛将取消泳装竞赛环节，宣称不再"以貌取人"。

The competition began nearly 100 years ago in Atlantic City, New Jersey, as a beauty contest designed to keep tourists coming to the seaside resort the weekend after Labor Day. 

美国小姐选美比赛的前身是100年前在新泽西州大西洋城举办的选美比赛，当时比赛的目的是为了吸引人们在劳动节后的周末来海边度假。

"We're not going to judge you on your appearance because we are interested in what makes you," Gretchen Carlson, a former Miss America who is head of the organization's board of trustees, said while making the announcement Tuesday on Good Morning America. 

美国小姐选美大赛董事会主席、曾当选"美国小姐"的格雷琴•卡尔森近日在《早安美国》节目中宣布了取消泳装环节的消息，她说："我们将不再根据一个人的外表来评判此人，因为我们感兴趣的是使她与众不同的东西。"

Kate Spade, a fashion designer known for her sleek handbags, was found dead in her Park Avenue apartment Tuesday in an apparent suicide. She was 55.

以其设计的时髦手提包著称的时尚设计师凯特•丝蓓5日被发现死于她公园大道的公寓里，终年55岁，死亡原因为自杀。

Her husband and business partner Andy Spade was in the apartment at the time. The couple's daughter was at school. While investigators were still in the early stages of their inquiry, the police said evidence including a note pointed to "a tragic suicide". 

当时她的丈夫兼商业伙伴安迪•丝蓓也在公寓里，而他们的女儿正在上学。尽管调查仍处于初期，但警方表示，包括一张纸条在内的证据表明这是一起"悲剧式自杀"。

They wouldn't discuss what was in the note, but law enforcement officials told The Associated Press that Spade left a message to her 13-year-old daughter, saying it was not her fault. 

警方不愿多透露纸条上的内容，但执法人员告诉美联社，丝蓓留下了一句话给她13岁的女儿，称她的死亡并非女儿的错。

Kate Spade was born Katherine Brosnahan. She was working as an editor at a fashion magazine when she launched her company with husband Andy in their New York apartment in 1993. She started the company based on six shapes of bags that she thought every working woman needed. The design was a smash hit.

凯特•丝蓓原名为凯特•布罗斯纳安。1993年，担任时尚杂志编辑的她和丈夫安迪在纽约一幢公寓里创立了自己的公司。创业之初她推出了"职场女性必备的6款包包"，由此轰动一时。

Your troubles of multitasking while holding an umbrella may soon come to an end. A Japanese company has developed the flying umbrella Free Parasol which provides shade by using a camera and artificial intelligence to autonomously track and follow the user's head. 

手里打着一把伞的时候想干点别的什么都很难，现在这一困境有望很快得到解决。日本一家企业开发出飞行雨伞"自由伞"，利用摄像头和人工智能自动跟踪和追随用户头部的移动轨迹，从而为其提供遮蔽。

The umbrella prototype weighs 5 kg and has a flight time of 20 minutes. The designers think they can reduce the weight to just 0.9 kg, and increase flight time up to an hour or more. Asahi Power Services, the creator, hopes to have the umbrella available by 2019 at the price of $275.

"自由伞"样品重5公斤，每次能飞行20分钟。设计者相信，他们能将"自由伞"重量降至仅0.9公斤，将飞行时长增至一小时以上。"自由伞"厂商Asahi Power Service公司希望能在2019年前将该产品投入市场，每把售价275美元。

Starbucks Executive Chairman Howard Schultz is stepping away from hands-on management at the global coffee chain, fuelling speculation the outspoken, liberal-leaning executive will make a US presidential bid. 

星巴克执行总裁霍华德•舒尔茨将从自己一手经营的这家全球咖啡连锁品牌引退，公众猜测这位直言不讳、有自由主义倾向的总裁将参选美国总统。

Schultz, 64, has built Starbucks into one of the world's most powerful global brands over four decades. Under his leadership, the Seattle-based coffeeshop chain went from  11 cafes to over 28,000 in 77 countries. Some investors interpreted the news as a sign that Schultz was finally making an expected move into politics. 

现年64岁的舒尔茨用约40年的时间把星巴克打造成世界上最有影响力的全球品牌之一。在他的领导下，这家总部位于西雅图的咖啡店连锁品牌从11家门店扩至遍布77个国家的2.8万家门店。一些投资者解读，此次舒尔茨引退是他终于众望所归将要从政的信号。

Asked specifically about a US presidential run, Schultz said in a New York Times article: "I intend to think about a range of options, and that could include public service. But I'm a long way from making any decisions about the future."

在被明确问及有关美国总统竞选的问题时，舒尔茨在《纽约时报》刊载的一篇文章中表示，打算就公共服务等一系列选择进行考虑，但现在就决定以后做什么为时尚早。
