1. cold feet:

when we talk about having cold feet, what we wanna talk about is that someone have made a decision to do something but they at the last minute hesitate and want to go back to walk away.

It’s like to get scared. You’re about to do something, you’ve been planning it, you know it’s coming, you want to do it, but then at the last minute, you get scared, you want to back away.

- Oh my teeth ache a lot recently.

- Then go to see a dentist, you need to get your teethfixed.

- Yeah, Iknow. But every time I start to phone the dentist, I think about the sound ofthat drill and right away I get cold feet.

2. to get your feet wet:

when you get your feet wet, you gain your first experience of something, you start to learn something.

Take English learning as an example. I know most of you guys are afraid to embarrass yourselves by trying to speak English when you are not that good at it. But that's the best way to learn: when you meet an American, try a few words --jump in and get your feet wet.

3. put your foot in your mouth:

To put your foot in your mouth means to accidentally say something inappropriate, that is to say something you shouldn’t have said.

“Oh my God! Ijust put my foot in my mouth! I asked a woman on the bus when her baby was due,but she wasn’t pregnant!!”

4. wait for the other shoe to drop:

for example, you get up a little bit late on a weekday morning, and you need to get to work on time. And then you found out you locked your keys in your car, you have a flat tire. you think you have bad luck. so you could say, oh my gosh, I’m just waiting for the other shoe shoe to drop.

Depressed people can even feel sad about good events ( they are always waiting for the other shoe to drop) because they are trapped in the habit of depression at the brain level.
