Pulitzer Prize Administrator Dana Canedy announced the winners of the 2018 Pulitzer Prizes at Columbia University Monday in New York City. 

当地时间16日，2018年普利策奖在纽约市哥伦比亚大学揭晓，负责人达纳?坎迪公布获奖名单。

The New York Times and The New Yorker jointly won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for public service for their reporting on exposing powerful and wealthy sexual predators, including allegations against Hollywood movie maker Harvey Weinstein. 

《纽约时报》和《纽约客》因报道曝光包括指控好莱坞电影制作人韦恩斯坦在内的有权势且富有的性侵者，共同获得2018年普利策公共服务奖。

The New York Times also shared the honor for national reporting with The Washington Post for their coverage of the investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 US presidential election. Kendrick Lamar became the first rapper to win the Pulitzer Prize for music. 

凭借对俄罗斯干预美2016年总统选举后续调查的报道，《纽约时报》还与《华盛顿邮报》共获国内新闻报道奖。拉马尔成为首位获得普利策音乐奖的说唱歌手。

The Pulitzers, the most prestigious honors in American journalism, have been awarded since 1917. Public Service Award winners receive a gold medal, and the other awards carry a prize of $15,000 each.

普利策奖自1917年起开始颁发，是美国新闻界的最高荣誉。公共服务奖获奖者得到一块金牌，其他奖项获奖者则每人获得1.5万美元奖金。

Unused foreign banknotes and coins brought back home by Japanese travelers as well as leftover yen still in the pockets of departing foreign visitors have become a business opportunity at airports. A Tokyo-based venture began setting up machines last year allowing travelers to change leftover currency into electronic money or gift vouchers.

Pocket Change Inc's machines accept the US dollar, euro, Chinese yuan, South Korean won or Japanese yen, both bills and coins. For residents in Japan, e-money includes Rakuten Inc's Edy and Aeon Co's Waon. Users can also choose Amazon and other vouchers, or make a charitable donation.

The next time you opt for canned foods such as corn, tuna, asparagus or chicken, think twice. They may contain zinc oxide that can potentially damage your digestive system, warn researchers. 

下次你在选择玉米、金枪鱼、芦笋汤或是鸡肉罐头时请三思。研究人员警告，罐头里或含有氧化锌，可能损害你消化系统。

The findings showed that nanoparticles (纳米粒子) of zinc oxide present in the lining of certain canned goods, usually considered good for its antimicrobial properties and preventing staining of sulfur-producing foods, may negatively affect the way in which human digestive tract operates. Researchers found that canned food contained 100 times the daily dietary allowance of zinc. 

研究结果显示，某些罐装食品内壁中存在的氧化锌纳米微粒因其抗微生物特性，可防止产硫食品的污染，通常被认为对人体有益，但这可能会对人体消化道的运转产生负面影响。研究人员发现，罐头食物的含锌量为日常膳食所需最高值的一百倍。

Gretchen Mahler, an associate professor at Binghamton University in New York state, said  these nanoparticles tend to settle onto the cells representing the gastrointestinal tract (胃肠道) and cause remodeling or loss of the microvilli, (微绒毛) which helps nutrient absorption.

Some of the nanoparticles also cause pro-inflammatory signaling at high doses, and this allows the passage of compounds that are not supposed to pass through into the bloodstream.

New system to kill passwords

新网络标准或终结密码

A new web standard is expected to kill passwords, meaning users will no longer have to remember logins for each and every website or service they use. The Web Authentication (WebAuthn) standard is designed to replace the password with biometrics and devices that users already own, such as a security key, a smartphone, a fingerprint scanner or webcam. 

一种新的网络标准或将终结密码的使用，也就是说用户无须再记住他们使用的所有网站或个人设备的登录信息了。这种"网络认证"标准旨在使用生物识别和用户已有的设备替代密码，比如安全密钥、智能手机、指纹扫描仪或网络摄像头。

WebAuthn protects users against phishing attacks and the use of stolen credentials as there will be nothing to steal, the authentication token is generated and used once by their specific device each time the user logs in. 

"网络认证"标准保护用户不受网络钓鱼攻击以及认证信息被盗用，因为本身就没什么可偷的。每次用户登录网站，都会生成特定设备才可使用的一次性身份认证指令。

"While there are many web security problems and we can't fix them all, relying on passwords is one of the weakest links. With WebAuthn's multi-factor solutions we are eliminating this weak link," said Jeff Jaffe, chief executive of the World Wide Web Consortium, the body that controls web standards.
